4.40pm: Northbound traffic on the M1 Princes Motorway up Mt Ousley is heavy following a car fire.
The incident occurred at around 4.20pm, when a vehicle caught fire in the northbound lanes near the truck stop at the top of Mt Ousley.
According to Live Traffic, northbound traffic is now banking all the way back to the base of Mt Ousley with two of three lanes closed.
When Fire and Rescue NSW crews arrived they found the car well alight with the driver already out of the vehicle.
After the fire was extinguished, all three northbound lanes were closed for a short period while the vehicle was moved off the road.
It is the second car fire in the Illawarra in as many days.
On Monday a man had a lucky escape after the car he was driving caught fire on College Avenue at Blackbutt.
The man was uninjured but his car was destroyed.
