The 24-year-old was named in Australia's provisional 24-man squad for the Tokyo Olympics, a roster that features the likes of Ben Simmons, Patty Mills and Joe Ingles.
The squad includes nine current NBA players and nine NBL players. The final 12-man roster will be named later this year.
With many of the Boomers veterans approaching retirement, Goorjian, who also coaches Adel at the Hawks, said the small forward is capable of leading the team to the Paris Olympics and beyond.
"When he came in here he came here highly credentialed," Goorjian said. "There was no doubt when he first arrived (in Wollongong) that first week, this is our best player, this was our most talented player. He has leadership qualities and he's young. He's played at a very high level.
"We see him on an international scene as a two-way player, a guy that can generate shots of his own and create for others, and that he can defend. That's the package we're looking for from perimeter players with the national team.
"Also, the fact that he's at a young age, we've selected a few guys with that in mind. Some of these guys are going to be retiring after we get that gold medal and now that new crew, we see him as a guy with a bright future.
"It's also exciting for the Hawks, we'd like to keep him long term and make this his home."
Goorjian and the Boomers will travel to Tokyo with one goal. To win gold.
They recognise it is a lofty ambition, no Australian men's side has won an Olympic medal of any colour, but with Simmons likely to lead the squad, the coach feels it is within reach.
"The medal chances are real strong in this group. I left after Beijing and it's been a 12-year cycle. During that cycle, they've been knocking on the door and real close.
"You can tell talking to Patty (Mills), [Matthew Dellavedova], (Aron) Baynes and Joe (Ingles) that it's gold or nothing. They want that gold medal.
"They've been close, a free throw here or a foul there, and this is the time. It came through loud and clear through that senior group they want that gold medal."
The Boomers were placed in Group B at Tuesday's draw, the team to face Nigeria and two teams still to qualify.
Those sides will compete at qualifying tournaments in Europe in June and July.
With a significant amount of planning already complete, Goorjian said the draw will allow his staff to finalise their preparations in the coming months.
"While we don't yet know all our group opponents, the draw is another piece of the jigsaw we are piecing together to deliver that elusive gold medal," Goorjian said.
"A successful Olympics campaign is all about preparation both on and off the court, getting our style of play and selection spot on, and delivering when it matters.
"This tilt at gold in Tokyo has been a decade or more in the making and I'm excited by the opportunity that awaits us later this year."
Goorjian has been impressed with the commitment of all of Australia's NBA stars. That includes Simmons, who sat out the Rio Olympics after being drafted first overall by Philadelphia.
In a statement, the 76ers star said he is eager to link up with the Boomers prior to the Games.
"It would be an amazing honour to play for my country," Simmons said. "I know things are uncertain right now but I've been in touch with Coach Goorjian and we're hopeful I can join the Boomers."
Patty Mills and Joe Ingles also released a joint statement, the pair eager to win a medal at their fourth Olympics.
"We are both excited to again be named in the Australian Boomers squad and we are determined to lead this group of both veteran experience and exciting younger talent to an elusive Olympic Medal," the pair said.
