Fire and Rescue NSW Wollongong Station Commander Andy Barber said the 40-foot steel yacht "just sank".
"I believe it might have had a leak or two," Commander Barber said.
"I believe the Water Police pumped out the boat [on Monday].
"We got notified at 4pm today there was a problem. When we got there there was about two inches of freeboard left. There was nothing left.
"We tried to set up a Davey pump to start pumping the water out but she went to the bottom quick smart."
The yacht has been handed to RMS.
"We boomed it. There was a very slight fuel spill. We put some absorbent booms to contain the spill, which is effective, it is doing the job quite nicely."
FRNSW crews from Wollongong and Shellharbour hazmat were on scene.
The yacht is expected to be craned out on Wednesday morning.
"She's an old boat. It needs a bit of work. It will need a bit more work now," Commander Barber said..
