Dimond played more than 150 games and scored 84 tries for Western Suburbs and played in four grand finals against the mighty St George teams of the 1950s and 60s, later named in the Magpies team of the century and hall of fame.
He also played 10 Tests for Australia, including as a teenager against Great Britain in 1958, the 1963-64 Kangaroos tour and in 1966.
"Peter was known as a very good blockbusting winger for Western Suburbs, NSW and Australia," Illawarra rugby league icon Bob Millward told NSW Rugby League.
"He is one of 47 Illawarra Kangaroos representatives to come through our ranks and we are very proud of him. His name is proudly displayed on the honour boards at the Illawarra Steelers."
He later wrote a book called 'Playing With Legends - The Peter Dimond Story' which launched in 2008.
Born in 1938, Dimond passed away on Thursday.
