The 23-year-old was driving a Subaru Liberty when he was pulled over just before 10pm on Saturday, June 19 in Smith Street, Wollongong.
After allegedly returning a positive breath test, the man was arrested and taken to Wollongong police station, where police alleged his breath analysis reading was 0.172.
His licence was suspended immediately and he was given a court attendance notice for driving with high-range PCA.
He will face Wollongong Local Court next month.
The man's alleged offending was detected during a traffic enforcement operation in the Illawarra at the weekend.
Operation Fume involved Illawarra Traffic and Highway Patrol officers, as well as officers from the Wollongong and Lake Illawarra police districts.
It was a road policing operation targeting criminal, alcohol, and anti-social behaviour, and road trauma.
Similar operations are expected in the future.
