For the community
Angels in Our Town
- December 2, Bong Bong Street, 7pm
Wingecarribee's first responders, volunteers and service personnel will once again be celebrated for all they do for the local community. Children will dress as angels and walk with our heroes in the Highlands. It will be followed by a free family concert at the Corbett Gardens.
Justice of the Peace
Justice of the Peace volunteers are present to witness documents at the following locations:
- Springett's Arcade: every Wednesday from 10am to 1pm
- Moss Vale Council (in the Jellore Room): every Thursday from 10am to 1pm
- Mittagong Marketplace: every Saturday from 10am to 1pm
Soul Food Co Op and Soul Warmers Café
- Every Thursday, 37 Regent Street, Mittagong, 9.15am-12pm
This café and co op is ran by the community for anyone in need. There is a variety of discounted produce, bread, non-perishables, frozen food and meals. Free coffee is also served. Learn more about the initiative via Soul Warmers Café and CO-OP on Facebook.
Domestic violence community stand
- December 1, Corbett Plaza, 11am to 2pm
Members from the Rotary Clubs of Bowral-Mittagong, E-Club of Brindabella and Moss Vale, with the Southern Highlands Command Police and constable and domestic violence officer Tricia O'Brien, will hold a community stand. People can visit the stand, chat to the police and community groups, and learn how to use the Empower You app.
Honouring those who have served
Moss Vale pays tribute exhibition
- Until December 1, Moss Vale Civic Theatrette
The Moss Vale Returned Serviceman's League sub-Branch, photographer Richard Batterley and Wingecarribee Shire Council have come together to showcase this exhibition which honours men and women who have served in conflicts across the globe. See a collection of images taken by Richard at this year's Anzac Day parade in Moss Vale, and memorabilia from the sub-Branch's museum. Memorabilia includes items from the First and Second World Wars, including uniforms on mannequins.
At council
Wingecarribee Local Planning Panel Meeting
- November 29, online, 2-6pm
The Wingecarribee Local Planning Panel has three independent experts and an independent community member, who all determine different development applications in the region and provide recommendations. The meeting will be livestreamed on the council website. The agenda can also be found on council's website. People can also physically attend.
Exercises for seniors
Qigong classes
- Every Tuesday, Mittagong Community Centre, 1-2pm
Seniors can take part in Qigong classes, with gentle exercises to help people increase their energy and reduce stress. People must be members of Mittagong Seniors to participate, which is an annual fee of $10. The class has a weekly fee of five dollars. Those interested can turn up on the day, call the centre on 4868 0888, or email mittagongseniors@gmail.com for more information.
Mature Exercises
- Every Thursday, Mittagong Community Centre, 10am
AUSfit leader Jane Reid helps seniors improve their flexibility, balance and movement through gentle exercises. To take part in classes, people must become a Mittagong Seniors member which has an annual fee of $10, along with a weekly attendance fee. Those interested can turn up on the day to learn more or email mittagongseniors@gmail.com for more information.
Ways to be greener
Yerrinbool Railway Garden
- Every Monday, Yerrinbool Railway Garden near the station, 10am-12pm
Residents are invited to explore this garden weekly. The community garden was founded in 2018 by volunteers who wanted to grow healthy and fresh produce. There is also a mini market on the fourth Saturday of the month.
Railway Street fresh food and produce market
- Every Thursday, corner of Railway Street and Spring Street, 3-5.30pm
Grab fresh produce, plants, organic sourdough breads and more which are made and grown in the Highlands.
Crop Swap Robertson
- Every Saturday, CTC Robertson, 9-10.30am
Exchange crops, plants and magazines at this weekly meet-up. People do not have to come with crops to take anything from the table. No money is exchanged. All are welcome.
Music, dancing and meet-ups
Yerrinbool crafts
- Every Friday, Yerrinbool Community Hall on Everest Street, 11am-2pm
People are invited to bring their crafts to this weekly meet-up and share knowledge with others. It does not matter if it is cardmaking, upholstery, knitting, crocheting, or any other type of craft.
Line Dancing
- Every Tuesday, Mittagong Community Centre, 11am
Come and make friends and learn line dancing in Mittagong. People must be members of Mittagong Seniors to participate, with an annual fee of $10 and a weekly attendance fee of five dollars. Those interested can turn up on the day to learn more or email mittagongseniors@gmail.com for more information.
Ukulele group
- Every Tuesday, Mittagong Community Centre, 9-10.30am and Thursday from 12.30-2pm
People can learn more about playing the ukulele and make friends. People must be members of Mittagong Seniors to participate, with an annual fee of $10 and a weekly attendance fee of five dollars. International Folk Dancing group
- Every Thursday, Bowral Presbyterian Hall, 10.30-11.30am
Learn folk dancing at this weekly class. This group has performed at Tulip Time in the past. Classes are $10 per person. Email Margaret via margaretvconnor@gmail.com for more information.
Prancing for Parkinson's
- Every Thursday, Bowral Baptist Church, 1.30-3pm
People diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease can dance and improve their movements on a weekly basis. They are lead by occupational therapist and dance teacher Margaret Connor. Classes are one hour, followed by a 30 minute debrief with a cuppa. They cost $10 per person with Parkinson's, and friends, family members and carers can participate for free. Help others in the community
Volunteering opportunities through Volwing
Volwing is the region's volunteer resource organisation, where people can make a difference in the community, learn new skills and make friends. There are various positions available that cater to many interests. They include teaching learners to drive, greeting tourists at museums, serving food, being a reading assistant at a primary school, tending to gardens, and more.
