The man was operating a cherry picker about 11am when the beam hit his forearm, causing serious injuries including breaking both major bones.
Ambulance paramedics treated the man on site before he was taken to Shellharbour Hospital, then airlifted to St George Hospital, where he was expected to undergo surgery.
The man was working on the department store roof at the Stockland Shellharbour complex when the accident occurred. It is believed his arm was resting on the cherry picker railing when the beam fell.
