There have been strong results from the region's junior players competing in this open prizemoney event.
Carley Spinks and Emil Thanning won three tough matches to qualify for the main draw of the women's and men's events respectively, while Renee McBryde and Brooke Winley gained direct acceptance into the main draw, but failed to win their first round match.
Woonona's Shion Watabe had a great run, progressing to the quarter-finals of the women's main draw before losing a tight three-set match against her seeded opponent.
Bomaderry's Mitchell Pritchard is one of the top seeds in the men's event and is due to play his quarter-final match this week.
Round one of the Tuesday Night Singles Competition began last week at Wollongong Tennis Club, Beaton Park. The No.1 singles matches provided some great tennis and a few surprises.
Jason Wright had a good win over David Dubois, 6-4.
Newcomer Dean Pascale had a great first-up 6-0 win over Darren Moffitt. Andrew McIntosh fought hard for a 6-4 victory over Brendan Smith. David Macquire defeated James Elliott 6-3, and Mark Perri beat fellow junior Renee McBryde 6-2.
The Monday night mixed competition is also under way and has continued to grow in popularity.
There are 16 teams now playing out of three venues - Beaton Park, Gwynneville; Collegians Tennis and Squash, Figtree and Fairy Meadow Tennis Club.
