Dugan was assisted from the field midway through the second half of the Dragons’ Charity Shield drubbing at the hands of Souths and was sent for scans on Monday.
It revealed the 23-year-old suffered a lateral ligament injury, meaning he will be out until mid-April.
Ironically Dugan is expected to return for the Heritage Round clash against South Sydney in round five.
‘‘Josh has had scans and a surgical review and has suffered a lateral ligament injury following a collision on Saturday,’’ said Dragons high performance director Andrew Gray.
‘‘He is expected to return to the team in round five of the NRL competition.’’
Adam Quinlan shined for the Dragons in Dugan’s absence late in the Charity Shield, while Gerard Beale is another potential option at the back for coach Steve Price.
