The 34th Annual Illowra Tournament will tee-off at the Port Kembla Golf Club on Sunday.
As one of the region's largest female golf tournaments, the three-day event will feature 122 players from close to 20 clubs.
Tomorrow's opening day sees the Ladies Open Foursomes, with Monday and Tuesday featuring a 36-hole event for the Port Kembla Bowl.
Ladies Club President Lauris Kentwell said the tournament's impressive field was pleasing given the trend similar competitions have seen in recent times.
"I said to the girls when we started working on the tournament early in the year, because we are the first cab off the rank in the district that I thought we would be really battling this year," Kentwell said.
"A lot of other clubs can't get a three-day tournament going any more. They have gone to two day events and have tried everything.
"But we have got really good numbers, particularly on the Sunday," she said.
"It is great to see."
Tomorrow's opening round of play will be followed by a BBQ welcome for players visiting from all around NSW.
The tournament's name derives from the Aboriginal name for Hill 60, where the club operated between 1934 and 1954.
Last year's champion Colleen Bell is in the running to finish top of the pile again on Tuesday.
