The third round of the nation-wide competition is expected to attract more than 100 surfers to one of Kiama's beaches for the two-day competition. Set down for either Surf, Bombo or Jones Beach, the competition will see male and female surfers compete in four age groups; under-8s, under-10s, under-12s and under-14s.
A number of competitors will be from the Jones Beach Boardriders Club, who are hopeful conditions will be favourable to give their members a home-break advantage.
"The people from Wahu approached us to see if we'd be interested in the event being at Jones Beach and if we'd help out a bit, and we said we'd love to," Marc in het Panhuis from the club said.
"We've got a number of our young members who have been competing in the series. Chae Conti, Jada Thomas and Keiran Woolley in particular have been going really good and it would be great if we could get them a home break and maybe give them a bit of an advantage."
With the Wahu Surfer Groms Competition involving competitors as young as six years old, in het Panhuis believed it was a great opportunity to introduce young people to competitive surfing.
