Obsession is another way of saying it. And cat breeder Mr Skinner, of Bomaderry, is a long way gone.
He breeds ragdoll cats, a breed that originated in the US in the 1960s, taking his prize pusses to performances around Australia.
This Sunday they will be showing in Woonona at the ANCAT all breeds show.
“It can consume your life,” he said. “I know people who have flown in from Brisbane. They do Persians. It’s non-stop, it is full-on, and what they do has to be obsession.
“We’re the best breeders in Australia and we want people to know.”
But Mr Skinner said there’s more than one way to show a cat. Other club members are less obsessive and there’s a “part-pedigree” section for mixed-breed cats.
“That’s for anyone who just has a moggie cat who feels like they could come to the show – if they’re a member they can have their cat judged as well,” he said.
ANCAT’s all breeds show is at Woonona-Bulli RSL at 10am Sunday. Entry $5.
