Christmas festivities were launched in Shellharbour City with the Carols by Candlelight event on Friday evening.
This year’s carols at Reddall Reserve, Lake Illawarra involved 29 performers.
“Our carols event is a highlight in the region’s Christmas calendar, attracting thousands of people to our foreshore each year,” Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said.
“This spectacular event brings exceptional vocalists and performers to the stage to dazzle the crowds and welcome in the festive season.”
Several hundred people attended the Figtree Community Carols at Figtree High School on Saturday.
Special guests the Jelly Wobbles and local performers led the singing.
Carols events were also scheduled for Thirroul and Woonona throughout the weekend, and there will be other chances to celebrate the festive period.
The annual Albion Park Community Carols is on again at Albion Park High School on Tuesday.
Children’s activities and a barbecue will run from 6pm, with carols commencing at 7.30pm.
Carols events will also be held in Kiama, Kiama Downs, Gerringong and Jamberoo.
This includes the Kiama Community Carols in the Park at Hindmarsh Park on Wednesday from 7pm.
“This year Kiama has a very good reason to celebrate being a community, so I encourage everyone to find time to enjoy one of the carols near you,” Kiama Mayor Mark Honey said.
