The Illawarra Hawks will open their preseason in a meeting with the University of Texas at Alexandria Basketball Stadium on Monday night.

New import Delvon Johnson is expected to make his debut against the highly rated Longhorns, who will be led by NBA hopeful Mohamed Bamba.

Star guard Rotnei Clarke won’t play in the match as the sharpshooter remains in the United States until later this week.

Boomers representatives Mitch Norton and Nick Kay will also be unavailable as they continue their Asia Cup campaign.

Both are playing for the Australian team in the final on Monday morning.

Texas have already played two games in Australia.

The Longhorns lost 85-75 in their clash with Melbourne United before edging out Cairns Taipans 71-69.

Illawarra are yet to suit up ahead of the new season and will also play in the NBL preseason blitz from September 6 to 11.
