After starting the representative weekend with a win over Hunter Hitmen on Saturday afternoon, the Flames couldn’t go on with things on the second day of competition.
They were beaten convincingly in the opening match of the day by eventual winners Newcastle Blasters.
Newcastle posted an imposing 4-208 from their 20 overs while the Flames finished at 7-84 in reply.
A thumping knock of 79 not out from 41 balls led the Blasters’ assault.
Illawarra’s batting struggles continued in their second match of the day as they failed to threaten Central Coast Rush’s 8-128.
Rhys Voysey (3-10 off four overs) helped restrict the Rush to a manageable target, but the Flames managed just 9-85.
Jarrod Colliss scored 40 off 36 balls for Illawarra.
