Hawks coach Rob Beveridge felt Rhys Martin played a vital role in Sunday’s win over the Brisbane Bullets despite the fact an ear infection nearly ruled the veteran guard out of the contest.

Martin woke up with an ear infection on the morning of the game and was unable to get out of bed until receiving medical attention from doctors home visit.
He was struggling to hear out of one ear, but was still able to play a crucial role on court in the 104-82 home win. Beveridge waited until the second quarter to substitute Martin into the game after initially opting to give Indiana Faithfull his chance in the first. Martin eventually played 16 minutes while tallying seven points and three rebounds.
“I think he was a bit fragile when he went out there but when I threw him back the second time, the way he controlled the game was amazing,” Beveridge said.
“He was a real pinnacle part of why we won because of his ability to find open players and run the right set.
“He was really good but we didn’t even know if he was going to play. We just threw it out there. He said, I am not going to get a sweat up. I am okay. We though you better get a sweat up or you won’t be playing. He lifted.”
AJ Ogilvy (hip) and Mitch Norton (thumb) remained out for the match.
