The family friendly event mixing the arts with science and physics will be across three venues - Wisemans Park, Wollongong Workshop Theatre and St Bridgets - on Sunday August 19 from 10am to 2pm.
Event organiser Juliet Scrine said the change of location was due to last year’s inaugural event proving popular though “a bit squishy”.
“It’s quite a beautiful space,” she said referring to Wisemans Park. “There’s lots of rare plants, and animals that live around the park.”
She said it would be a day of “exploration” as many people just notice the oval but don’t look beyond.
Meantime fire and flames are the key theme throughout the event with presentations on being fire ready, the environment and fire sticks. While 3D printing workshops, science shows and stories around a camp-fire are set to be popular.
“Illawarra Flame means many things to different people. It applies to various branches of science through biology, physics and metallurgy, with links to industry and the making of steel,” organiser Ms Scrine said.
“For others it is beauty in the escarpment and an inspiration for art. But for all of us it provides a sense of respect for flame and it's potential for destruction.”
