Two small houses on Hewitts Ave at Thirroul are the latest northern suburbs cottages to be selected for demolition, with plans in to build four townhouses on the double site.

The cottages, at 21 and 23 Hewitts Ave, are on land zoned R2 (low density residential) which is also classed as being flood prone.
The proposal includes knocking the houses down, removing trees, subdividing the blocks into four, and building four detached units on the land.
The units would be markedly different from the rest of the street, which is mostly cottages.
The development application says this is an advantage, as it would “ensure variety in housing opportunities”.
Wollongong City Council is also considering an application for four units at 13 Pass Ave Thirroul.
A plan for five units on Lawrence Hargrave Drive at Thirroul was recently rejected by council planners and the local planning panel, which said it was out of character with the area and did not comply with development rules.
The proposal is on exhibition via the Wollongong City Council website.
