‘Exposition’ is the title of the September 29 event, which again includes an inspiring program of “Ideas Worth Spreading”.
Headline speaker is Associate Professor Michael Adams, who won more than the prestigious Calibre Essay Prize when he dove deep into the ancient practices of freediving.
In exploring the fine line between life and death through the ‘’intrinsically dangerous activity’’ of freediving, the UOW Associate Professor of Human Geography questioned his own “fragility of life’”.
Penning ‘Salt Blood’ also had Prof Adams thinking of his father, who took his own life almost 50 years ago.
The power of story, and the relevance of his role in the research journey, is the focus of this talk.
TedxUWollongong combines live performances from UOW academics, research students and the university community as we well as the broadcast of two TED talks.
“Our speakers will inspire you with revealing talks of their professional and personal quest to build greater knowledge and improve our world,” a spokesperson said.
Dr Elisabeth Duursma, Dr Shawn Burns and Dr Pia Winberg will also speak on the day.
Tickets are free from the TEDxUWollongong website.
The September 29 event runs 2-5.30pm at the Performance Theatre inside UOW’s Creative Arts building (25).
