Govers opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a trademark drag flick from a penalty corner.
But Argentina fought back with goals to Matias Paredes five minutes later and then Pedro Ibarra in the 37th minute to win 2-1.
It was Govers’ first goal for Australia since November 2016, having missed selection for the Rio Olympics, having played at the London Games four years earlier.
The Kookaburras will have a training camp in Perth in October, before their World Cup squad is announced.
“We improved in every game which was good, even if we didn’t win in the end,” Kookaburras teammate Jeremy Hayward said afterwards.
“We’re looking forward to the future, which is the World Cup so this is great preparation for that.”
The series also involved Malaysia and Japan.
