Kiama’s cause looked doomed until Ward chipped in on the 18th.
Wil Bromley then holed a six-foot putt to square his match also and force the fixture into a sudden-death playoff between the teams’ number one players Jye Halls and Wil Daibarra.
Halls holed a clutch putt to keep the match alive on the first extra hole, but a solid par for Daibarra on the second saw Kiama advance.
Kiama is now just one win away from the State finals, to be played in Newcastle next year
Six-pack of Champs for Monie at Worrigee
Troy Monie has made it a ‘six-pack’ of wins in the Worrigee Links Club Championships after taking out the title last Saturday.
The Runner-up was Brett Bishop, who still performed well despite fading in the final round.
The A Grade Nett winner was Clarrie Raymer, and runner-up was Cam Fraser, who recorded a fantastic final round of even par.
The B Grade Champion was Graeme Banister who was consistent enough to finish ahead of Adrian Smith.
The B Grade nett winner was Ian Mackie, and the runner-up was Chris Hinsley.
The C Grade champion was Dennis Reid, with Billy Gatt finishing as runner-up.
The Nett winner was Vic Speechley, and the runner-up was Chris Hoffman.
Locals crowned kings of the Bowl
Wayne Pottenger, Gail Pottenger, Fred Bushnell and Dot Swan, have taken out the Minnamurra Bowl with a total of 265 points.
The annual event is a mixed four-person aggregate Stableford played over two rounds. Visitors came from Sydney, Blue Mountains and the Mid-North Coast to compete.
Women’s titles
Over 150 women from all over NSW have descended on Port Kembla Golf Club for The Women’s Golf Illawarra Championships, which got underway yesterday. The evergreen Coleen Bell leads the way in Division One after a first round 86. Shirley Parker is in front in Division Two, while Gail Hodge leads Division three.
The nett leaders are Gail Pottenger from Kiama (Div 1), Carol Coleman ( Div Two) and Jeanette Whitehead (Div Three). The second round of the stroke play winds up today, with the foursomes being played tomorrow (Wednesday).
Ravnjak lights up Bangkok
Tahnia Ravnjak made the most of her start in the co-sanctioned ALPG - China LPGA PTT Thailand Masters in Bangkok over the weekend.
The Cordeaux Heights 25-year old carded rounds of 72, 75 and 71 to finish at two-over par in her first ’Aussie’ event for the summer.
Her final round one under par was also enough to vault her up the leader board into a tie for 31st place.
Ravnjak had the benefit of Wollongong Golf Club member, and local Tourism chief Col Bloomfield flew into Bangkok to act as her caddy.
“I’m looking forward to the next one with him now,” Ravnjak said.
