The Pirates reversed a semi-final loss to the table-topping to Moama Murray Steamers with a straight sets victory to claim the BPL08 winner’s purse of $25,000 at Club Pine Rivers.
Pirates won the inaugural BPL title, with the 2018 trio of world champion Alex Marshall, Australian representative Kelsey Cottrell, Michael Breen plus coach Dave Edwards victorious in the eighth installment.
For the Gorillas, BPL08 was a roller-coaster ride which ended in disappointment. They stormed out of the gates with four straight wins but thereafter struggled and finished bottom of the competition.
Murray Steamers were the top side after the qualifying rounds and beat Brisbane to book a spot in the grand final. Brisbane then beat Melbourne Roys in a tie-break before proving too strong in front of their home fans in the decider.
