The Showgirl Competition has a long, proud tradition of creating an ambassadorial position within the Kiama community for young women. This year’s entrants are 21-year-old Sarah Young and 22-year-old Bridget Wall.
Sarah lives in Kiama and is studying her third year of primary education at Wollongong University.
Since the age of 15, Sarah has had a passion for volunteering in remote communities and has travelled to Cambodia four times to volunteer. Sarah loves to write, to spend time with family and friends, to read, to enjoy our beautiful surroundings and loves to teach.
In 2018 Sarah was awarded with the Young Citizen of the Year award and an Outstanding Young Citizen of the Year award, recognising her incredible commitment to the community. Sarah’s family has been a part of the Show Society her whole life, meaning she holds the Kiama Show very close to her heart. To Sarah, the Showgirl Competition is an integral component of the show, providing a stepping stone into leadership positions for young women.
Bridget is a veterinary nursing student with a particular passion for horses. She has a love for music and enjoys playing guitar, singing and writing her own music.
From age 4 Bridget has actively exhibited at the Kiama Show in a diverse range of activities, including the pet show, baking, photography and horse events. Bridget is active in the Kiama community as a volunteer with the Kiama SES and a member of the local pony club.
She has volunteered with Riding for the Disabled and received the Young Volunteer of the Year award in 2013. Bridget is passionate about the provision of health care for young adults with chronic illnesses locally, as she feels there is a gap in our health care system for adolescents transitioning from the pediatric to the adult system.
