Ms Miller spoke of the special relationship her late father Harry M Miller had with the Salvation Army and some of the ways he helped it raise money and hope.
The launch organised by a Red Shield Appeal Business Committee drew generous support from the business community while showcasing the work the Salvos do.
It also raised awareness for the door knock on May 25 and 26.
Corporate support of the Salvos is something Ms Miller knows a lot about from working with the Harry M Miller Group and watching her late father's philanthropic commitment to the cause.
That included some unique fundraising opportunities for the Salvo's by the man she described as a charismatic supercharged ideas machine who always had the attitude of "yes of course we can".
"And he brought his friends, connections and importantly innovative suggestions with him. I recall seeing Salvation Army collectors at the doors of performances of Jesus Christ Superstar. An ironic yet successful fundraising campaign in the early '90s. His love, loyalty and enthusiasm for the Salvos was enormous. It never waivered".
Ms Miller is a member of The Salvation Army's Media Advisory Board. She said she loves working with others in promoting and supporting the work the Salvo's do raising hope for so many. Which is exactly what was happening in Wollongong.
"How incredible it is to be in a room with more than 100 people today who all share one incredible connection. And that is a belief that investment in the work of the Salvation Army pays big dividends in our community. Being here today shows we are united to build a strong community in and around the Salvos here in the Illawarra and beyond. I really am constantly blown away by the depth of the work done by the Salvation Army".
The 150 business people at the launch heard how the funds raised will go to initiatives such as helping Carinya Cottage offer safe accommodation, counselling and case management to women and children escaping violence or at risk of homelessness. And the First Floor Program's support groups, counselling sessions, creative art workshops, and practical information for families impacted by drugs, alcohol and or mental health issues.
The Red Shield Appeal Business Committee members are David Apolo, Nathan Heard, Andrew Manson, Debra Murphy, Dr David Morgan Williams, Bill Dowson OAM, Peter Buckley and divisional commander Lt Colonel Miriam Gluyas.
