Kane Dalton Kelly spent Wednesday being interviewed by detectives at Wollongong Police Station before he was charged with nine offences including four counts of rape.
He was remanded in custody but was taken to hospital later that evening with stomach pain. He was later discharged and returned to police custody to face Wollongong Local Court on Thursday. However, Kelly remained unwell overnight and returned to hospital twice on Thursday.
He was expected to front court for a bail application on Friday but defence lawyer Jordan Mechan told Magistrate Robert Walker at noon that Kelly had been returned to hospital for a fourth time - again with stomach pain - and he was unlikely to be well enough to return in the afternoon.
Magistrate Walker adjourned the matter to Monday. Kelly will remain in custody if he returns from hospital before then.
Meanwhile, police charge sheets seen by the Mercury reveal Kelly stands accused of committing acts of indecency with four women - aged 21, 17, 41 and 19 - on February 1 and March 1 in 2012.
A further charge of assault with an act of indecency is alleged to have occurred on February 5 when Kelly allegedly grabbed a woman around the waist with his right arm while holding his penis in his left hand.
Meanwhile, police will have charged Kelly with an additional four counts of sexual intercourse without consent over allegations he raped a woman at Fairy Meadow Beach in the early hours of New Year's Day 2014.
Police told reporters on Wednesday that Kelly had been a suspect during initial investigations into the assaults and was arrested on Wednesday after "new evidence" came to light.
