Keen local Drew Katis wrestled his first tuna fishing out of his 4.9m tinnie earlier this week, a healthy and very clean looking 40 kilo yellowfin.

With the weather as good as it been this week there have been plenty of boats out chasing them with good results coming off our local coastline with a healthy patch of water setting up just out the front of Wollongong in the 70 to 110 fathom area.

This weekend will see a car park out there if the weather holds.

There were plenty of good reds coming in from last weekend and this week with all the better fish coming from the deeper reefs out past the 50 metre depth line.

Paul Raisis took Ewan (The Tiger) Johns out for a fish on the Bellambi reds last Sunday afternoon and they weren't disappointed using the elkat flasher rigs and tigers flasher rigs with butterflied yakka fillets doing the job on a number of good sized reds from Paul's Spot X in about 60m.

Plenty of reports filtering through this week of hungry snapper taking jigs and plastics off Wollongong with a couple of customers getting into fish to just under the 5 kilo mark.

The flathead drifts have still been producing excellent quality fish from the deeper drifts up to our north such as Burning Palms and Stanwell Park as well as off Wollongong and Port Kembla and with little to no mention of the tackle stealing pests that have been about.

Not a great deal to report off the beaches with many locals saying it has been tough going of late apart from the odd salmon and tailor at first and last light.
