With as much as 210mm of rain predicted between Friday and Monday, an early decision was made to shift the meeting, continuing a spate of race days abandoned for the Illawarra Turf Club because of concerns over the state of the track.
Nominations were reopened until 4pm on Wednesday afternoon, with the 1000m Benchmark 64 and 1000m Maiden races to now run over 900m, while the Class 1 and Maiden over 2000m to be run over 1850m on the Newcastle track.
It comes as heavy rain is also expected for the Saturday meeting at Warwick Farm, where premier Kembla Grange trainer Gwenda Markwell will chase some of the $2 million prizemoney in the two-year-old Inglis Millennium with filly Stolen Glance.
There are predictions of up to 25 millimetres of rain to fall in western Sydney on Friday and again on Saturday, but Markwell stable representative Nigil Monahan said her Artie Schiller bloodline should ensure she'll handle the wet.
Sam Clipperton has been booked to ride, tasked with the challenge of overcoming a wide gate, after drawing barrier 17 on Tuesday.
