At the Children's Medical Research Institute Gerringong Committee Annual General meeting on February 3, treasurer Sue Reid said the committee had raised a total of $69,067.63 in 2019.
"This sum takes the amount donated to CMRI since the formation of Gerringong Committee 60 years ago, to $2,093,631," a committee spokesperson said.
"This is an amazing achievement made possible by the hard work of all our members, generous donors and the ongoing generosity of the community."
Funds raised go towards medical research into cancer, embryology, genomics and gene therapy, neurobiology and research facilities.
The research institute hopes to help cure children's diseases, including genetic diseases and birth defects.
Director of CMRI Roger Reddel said past victories for the institute were the elimination of rubella, the introduction of life-saving care for premature infants, and the development of microsurgery techniques for organ transplants.
The CMRI Gerringong Committee looks forward to another year of fundraising to support this crucial research, and invites the community to help out (and have a good time) at this year's fundraising events.
The Children's Medical Research Institute Gerringong Committee's first fundraiser for 2020 is a night out at the movies to see 'Military Wives' from the director of 'The Full Monty', described by James King, BBC Radio 2, as "the feel-good film of the year".
Starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Sharon Hogan, 'Military Wives' premieres at Greater Union Shellharbour on Thursday, March 12. Tickets are $20 and include tea or coffee, slice and sandwiches. Arrive at 6.30pm for a 7pm screening. Tickets are available from Cronin's Liquor.
If you'd like to get involved but can't make it to the movie night, on May 9 the committee is holding a Mother's Day weekend high tea and fashion parade in Gerringong Town Hall.
The annual Jeans for Genes Trivia Night will be held at Gerroa Boat Fisherman's Club on August 7.
There will be several other events later in the year.
New members are welcome, and the committee next meets on April 6t at 7pm in the Gerringong Town Hall.
