Glenn Filtness threatened to 'gouge-out' his 93yr-old grandmother's eyes with a spoon: court

Police will allege Glenn Jay Filtness' actions on the evening of May 18 terrified his grandmother so much she "thought she was going to die".

Documents tendered to Wollongong Local Court this week said Filtness and the victim were at home when Filtness allegedly started yelling at his grandmother, accusing her of taking property that belonged to him.

She told police she was sitting at the dining room table when Filtness picked up a large steak knife and stabbed the wooden dining table, allegedly telling her "f--k you bitch, I will kill you bitch".

He allegedly went on to say "I don't need to use a knife, I can use a spoon - which eye would you like gouged out first?"

Filtness then allegedly pushed the victim's head into a wall before grabbing her hands and twisting them, causing her immediate pain.

The woman told police her grandson then wiped saliva from his mouth over her face and took away her walking stick while continuing to verbally threaten her.

The victim managed to call her daughter who contacted police, then remained on the phone with her mother until officers arrived at the house.

The woman told police she was worried her grandson would return to the house and she thought she was going to die.

However, police said she didn't provide a statement at the time "out of fear".

She was taken to Bay and Basin Police Station where she was collected by her daughter.

Meanwhile, Filtness turned himself in to police on Tuesday. He was charged with common assault, intimidation and being armed with intent. When interviewed, he said he had no memory of the incident.

In refusing bail, Magistrate Jillian Kiely said the allegations against Filtness were alarming.

"The victim was an extremely elderly, vulnerable woman - these allegations involve serious threats with a knife," she said.

She adjourned the case to June 12.

Filtness is yet to enter any pleas to the charges.
