Bradley Kearns, 34, fronted Wollongong Local Court on Thursday charged with three counts of dishonestly obtaining property by deception after police arrested him at his girlfriend's Bellambi home on Wednesday afternoon.

Kearns had previously been banned from being in contact with the woman or attending her house under the terms of a current apprehended domestic violence order, prompting police to lay an additional charge of contravening an AVO charge against him.

Documents tendered to the court reveal an unknown person broke into an unlocked car at a Mount Ousley home last Saturday night and stole a man's wallet, which contained his credit cards.

When the victim noticed the theft, he logged onto his internet banking and discovered six unauthorised transactions on one of his cards.

Police will allege Kearns was captured on CCTV entering the IGA supermarket at Thirroul just after 8am last Sunday morning and buying groceries and cigarettes valued at $48 with the victim's credit card.

He re-entered the shop a few minutes later and purchased $97 worth of tobacco, allegedly using the man's card.

Less than 15 minutes later, Kearns made another purchase of two packets of tobacco at Coles Thirroul, again allegedly producing the credit card as payment.

It is alleged Kearns attended the Metro Petrol Station at Bellambi in a black car just before 9am and made two lots of purchases with the victim's card, including buying Telstra phone credit and two gift vouchers.

Police spoke to the driver of the car on Wednesday, who allegedly identified Kearns as his passenger.

Kearns sought bail in court on Thursday, with defence lawyer Anthony Stewart saying Kearns could live with his mother in Woonona and was willing to stay out of Thirroul if released.

However, Magistrate Geraldine Beattie refused to release Kearns, noting the strength of the case against him and his lengthy criminal history, which included multiple breaches of court orders.

"I have no confidence he'll comply with bail conditions given his history," she said.

The case was adjourned to September 15.
