Wollongong United appeared to have one hand on the trophy. But, like they have done all year, Woonona were happy to cause an upset to spoil the party for their much more fancied opposition.
The Sharks, who were in second place heading into Sunday's game, clinched a 3-0 win over South Coast United while Wollongong United fell 3-2 to Coniston in an upset.
The result means Woonona leapfrog United on the ladder to create club history by winning their first IPL premiership.
It's an impressive result from the Sharks, who just missed out on playing finals in 2019. In the last game of that season, Woonona mustered a 1-all draw with Tarrawanna - two teams fighting for a finals spot. As a result, the Blueys kept their campaign alive while the Sharks were left to lick their wounds.
In 2020, they will head into their first Premier League finals series full of confidence after winning some silverware.
More to come.
