Anglers have fished nearly all day to only catch fish in a short 30-40 minute window, but the size of the snapper made up for the wait.
Some reds approached the magical 5-kilogram mark from both the shallow reefs out to, and including, the deeper structures.
Along with the reds, there was a welcome bycatch of excellent-sized black spot pig fish.
Other species included some massive blue mowies, horse-sized trevally and the humble but ferocious dragon snapper.
There has been plenty of action on the kings, too, with plenty of legal fish caught with some cracking hoodlums in amongst them over the 15kg mark landed around the Port islands and Bandit reef.
These bigger kings are suckers for a slow-trolled, big, fat slimy mackerel or fresh squid but ... hang on!
