Star Point won a Benchmark 64 with Matthew Cahill aboard over 1600m at Kembla Grange on Saturday, after fading for seventh in the Kembla Classic previously.

On a quick back-up, Glen Boss takes over the ride, but Cahill had declared his belief Star Point would easily handle the rise in trip for the first time.

"I think she's still learning, but she really knuckled down the last 100m," Cahill said after winning. "She'll definitely run further, the 2000m (is) no trouble."

In an open market, Star Point is rated a $16 hope with sportsbet.com.au, behind the James Cummings-trained Flexible ($5) and Edward Cummings' Duais ($6).

Star Point has had two career wins from five starts, both at Kembla Grange and impressed when spearing down the middle of the track to overpower Kermadec filly Seduction Queen last outing.

Meanwhile, Markwell's Provincial Championships hope Gemmahra took out an 800m open trial at Kembla Grange on Wednesday, in preparation for next week's final.

Gemmahra is on the fourth line of betting at $10 for the Provincial crown, after winning the Hawkesbury heat last month.

"She's pretty straight forward, she loves to do her thing out in front and I just let her enjoy herself," jockey Keagan Latham said after the trial.

"I didn't get too serious, just let her feel comfortable and she feels like she's ready to race now."
