The tackle came at a critical moment in Sunday's Anzac Day loss to the Roosters, the Dragons seeing a two-point lead turn into a 10-point deficit while Pereira was in the sin bin. Such was the ferocity of the tackle, a number of commentators argued it should have attracted a send off.
From there Anthony Griffin's side capitulated in the second half, ultimately losing 34-10.
The winger has been hit with a grade three careless high tackle charge, attracting a three-week suspension if he takes the early guilty plea.
Should Pereira seek a downgrade at the judiciary and fail, he will miss five games. The length of the suspension includes loading for a prior offence.
The charge was one of three to come out of the game for the Dragons, fellow winger Mikaele Ravalawa in hot water for a tackle on Josh Morris.
The Fijian has been handed a grade two shoulder charge citing, ruling him out for two games with an early guilty plea. An unsuccessful trip to the judiciary will result in a three-week suspension.
Tyrell Fuimaono also caught the attention of the match review committee, the forward facing a fine for a grade one careless high tackle on Tedesco in the second minute of the game. An early guilty pela will cost him $1350.
The charges came on a busy weekend for the committee, Sharks forward Siosifa Talakai looking at up to six weeks on the sidelines for a shoulder charge.
