The 12-people determining the outcome of a manslaughter trial for Darren Butler and Andrew Russell in Wollongong District Court were played two Triple 0 calls on Thursday.
Daniel Merrett, also known as Daniel Clulow, died when the black Ford Territory he was a passenger in slammed into a fuel tanker on the Princes Highway, causing him to be ejected from the vehicle and die instantly on May 18, 2019.
It is alleged Butler was driving and Russell fired a gun when he was a passenger in a silver Toyota Corolla that was chasing the Territory at high speed.
Daniel's sister Kayleen Merrett was driving the Territory at the time of the collision. Thomas Johnson and Jakkaya Clulow, who is a cousin of the Merretts, were also passengers.
Mr Merrett made a call to Triple 0 while they were driving along Northcliffe Drive after 2am. The first call only lasted a short time and screams could be heard as the operator tried to get details of the unfolding incident.
Mr Merrett told the operator "we are being chased by someone who is a car" with a "gun".
He hung up the phone and a short time later the operator called back and told Mr Merrett that he needed to stay on the phone so she could send police to their location.
The operator tried to make Mr Merrett focus on her, "you need to tell me where you are" before Mr Merrett said they were on Northcliffe Drive before telling her they had travelled onto "freeway", on the "F6".
"Who shot at you," the operator asked. "Darren Butler," Mr Merrett replied.
"We are going past Dapto Showgrounds...our car is on fire," he said.
"They are 20 metres behind us, they are shooting at us".
Mr Merrett can be heard telling his sister how to drive, "back off a tiny bit then accelerate", before yelling "go, go, go".
The operator told Mr Merrett he was doing a good job in helping his sister drive.
Then there was a loud crash sound and screaming as the operator asked, "did you just hit something?" before she said, "Daniel, Daniel" and the phone call ended.
The court heard Mr Merrett died of "blunt force head injuries" with a report ruling it was "highly unlikely" he was wearing a seatbelt as he was ejected through the windscreen.
Ms Merrett suffered extensive injuries which included a collapsed lung, fractured rib, hip, pelvis and she had an injured arm and eye before she underwent surgery.
Jakkaya Clulow was treated in St George and Wollongong hospitals where she sustained a deep 6cm wound to her hip, fractured rib, superficial lacerations to her chest and injuries to her foot and pelvis.
A toxicology report also determined Ms Merrett had varying amounts of amphetamine, methamphetamine, morphine and ketamine in her system.
Meanwhile, the jury were shown CCTV footage taken from various locations of the group's interactions at the Cringila service station, the alleged car chase through Berkeley and towards Albion Park Rail, the manner in which the cars appeared to be driving as well as the collision.
Police seized footage from various businesses to piece together the alleged route the cars took and the footage at times shows the cars driving closely together.
On Friday, jurors, legal teams and Judge Andrew Haesler visited many locations along the route of the alleged car chase starting at Cringila service station before stopping at the crash site on the intersection of the Princes Highway and Cerole Avenue.
The trial resumes on Monday.
