Residents were startled from their homes about 2.15pm when a beige Holden Commodore screeched around a bend on First Avenue North and crashed into a parked car.
At least four police cars and a police helicopter overhead arrived in the street soon afterwards. The Commodore driver, a 17-year-old girl, was visibly distressed as she emerged from the car and was arrested.
"I heard the police helicopter and the sirens before I heard the crash itself. It was really loud," one resident told the Mercury.
"Outside, there were skid marks all down the road.
"Then I heard a man scream at the lady, 'what the hell are you doing?'."
"She looked pretty distraught, quite stressed as well and basically the police were trying to urge her out the car.
"There was quite an excessive amount of police cars. I was concerned that someone was quite seriously hurt and was surprised the air bags hadn't deployed. I thought maybe she'd just lost control of the brakes, then I realised they were definitely in pursuit."
The pursuit began on Northcliffe Drive at Warrawong a short time earlier, when the Commodore driver allegedly failed to stop for police.
