Shannon Crawford, 36, was arrested in April but then was granted bail only to fall back into old drug selling habits.
He was found supplying drugs in May and has been in jail since.
Crawford will spend another month locked up after he was sentenced in Wollongong Local Court on Friday.
Agreed facts said the miner was pulled over by patrolling police in his Volkswagen Golf about 12.50pm on April 11 along Byamee Street, Dapto.
Police saw Crawford was holding and texting on a mobile phone and when officers spoke to him they saw a brown knife handle sticking out from the side of the front passenger seat.
Crawford said "it's just an antique I picked up from a mate's garage" before officers performed a drug test, searched the car and seized the 40cm curved machete.
Police reported Crawford was nervous, his hands were shaking and he was avoiding eye contact while also observing he had an unusual bump in his shorts.
Crawford was strip searched and revealed a number of clear plastic resealable bags containing clear crystallised meth in his underwear.
He was arrested and said there was "two balls of ice" inside the bag.
Police also looked through two phones and saw messages of Crawford supplying drugs.
He returned a positive drug test and was taken to the police station where the drugs were weighed and totalled 15.44 grams.
Crawford was charged with supplying prohibited drugs, having custody of a knife, possessing a prohibited drug and driving a car with illicit drug present in the blood.
Crawford was released on bail however was arrested again on May 13 where he was again pulled over while driving about 2.10pm on Kannahooka Road, Dapto.
Crawford was breathing quickly and appeared nervous before admitting to police he had "pipes, that's it" but officers searched him and his car, finding drugs in his underwear again.
Police seized the bag of clear crystalised substance which was later weighed and totalled 18.15 grams of meth, which is equivalent to 181 street level deals.
He was charged with supplying prohibited drugs and possessing a prohibited drug.
On Friday, the court heard Crawford had a poor criminal history for matters of drugs, violence and firearms.
Crawford's lawyer Matt Ward said his client was dealing at a "street level" and described his actions as "unsophisticated yet clearly criminal" given where the items were stored and messages on Crawford's phone.
He said while there was an element of Crawford receiving financial gain, he clearly had an underlying drug problem and was using to self medicate for the emotional distress from the breakdown in his marriage.
Mr Ward said Crawford had missed the birth of his third child as he was in custody. He also said Crawford had a job lined up at Tahmoor mine and support from his family.
Magistrate Gabriel Fleming rejected Mr Ward's suggestion that Crawford could serve his jail sentence in the community as she said he had a "significant amount" of drugs on the first occasion then was selling meth again while on bail.
"Victims of these offences are the entire community," she said. "Ice abuse is an absolute cancer. When you supply drugs you spread misery to the community.
"There needs to be very strong message sent to you and the community that if you are going to supply meth over and over again then you need to accept you will be taken out of community and put in custody."
Crawford was sentenced to 15 months in jail with a non-parole period of five months. He will be eligible for parole on October 12.
He was also fined $800 for having the knife and $600 for driving with a substance in his system and was disqualified for six months.
