The long-standing charity event run by Wollongong radio station i98 and parent company the WIN Network will still have the eye-catching procession of trucks, cars and motorcycles but will be without the usual free family fun day often frequented by thousands.
"It's a bit tricky to get around the restrictions for that [family event]," Convoy spokesman Mark Rigby said on Monday morning.
The event, which was originally scheduled for November 21, has been running for 17 years and was replaced with an "at home" event in 2020 due to COVID but still managed to raise more than $1 million.
An abundance of lead vehicles will start their 80 kilometre journey at Appin before heading to Shellharbour City, with spectators lining the streets to watch. This year's finish line has moved to the Convoy shop on the Princes Highway, where vehicles will continue to the Yallah roundabout then head home.
"This year we're not expected any groundbreaking fundraising results," Mr Rigby said.
"It's just about getting the community back together again and showing support for those people who need it."
The announcement comes ahead of the much anticipated auction of the House That Convoy Built, with money raised to support families doing it tough due to potentially life threatening medical conditions.
"It's been a massive project for us over the last two years and we've just had to push things back, then push things back, but we'll actually be able to auction that the day before Convoy on December 4," i98 announcer Marty Haynes said.
More than $17 million has been raised in the event's history. Monies raised go to the Illawarra Community Foundation who distribute funds to families in need and local charity organisations.
