Woonona woman granted bail over 'kill' threat at stranger's front door

Daizie Mercy, 32, told Wollongong Local Court through defence lawyer Alyce Fisher that she was a transgender person who identified as female, but had been sent to a men's jail during her most recent stint behind bars in 2018, despite undergoing hormone therapy.

She said she had been attacked three times while behind bars, once so severely she was hospitalised because of her injuries.

Magistrate Susan McGowan granted Mercy bail, despite objections from the police.

Documents tendered to the court said the victim heard banging on her door at 7am on Monday and went to answer it, at which time Mercy allegedly immediately yelled "I was sent here cause my daughter was dragged into this house by three men yesterday."

The woman said there had been no men at the house the day prior, however Mercy allegedly demanded the woman pay her $300 or she would "call the police".

The woman said she had no money, prompting Mercy to walk off, but not before allegedly telling the victim "I'm going to come back and kill you".

It is alleged Mercy walked to the BP Service Station nearby and took five packets of cigarettes from behind the counter.

Meanwhile, the victim took a picture of Mercy, which she then posted on the Woonona/Bulli community Facebook page.

Several people allegedly identified Mercy and claimed to have seen her in the area.

Mercy was arrested later that day, admitting she'd gone to the house but denied threatening the victim.

As part of her bail, Mercy must report to police daily and not approach the victim's house.

The matter returns to court on January 25.
