IAS skateboarding talent Kieran Woolley

How would you describe yourself in one sentence?  A never-ending ball of energy that is always up for a challenge.

When did you start playing your sport and how did you get started?  From an early age I started skating in between surfs and dad built a halfpipe in my backyard when i was about 10. When I was 11 my dad had a bad accident in the surf. While he was recovering I couldn’t surf so I skated much more and skateboarding took over. Now I live for skating.

Why did you apply for an IAS scholarship?  IAS is a great opportunity to learn more about what it takes to succeed at any level of sport. I applied for the IAS scholarship because I want to do everything that will help me be a better skateboarder. IAS definitely helps me become a better athlete.

In your career so far who has been the biggest influence and how?  Ryan Grant, Hagan McCreath, Renton Millar and Mark Woolley have been the biggest influences In my skating career. They have all helped me grow in skating.

Ryan has introduced me to a lot of amazing local skaters to skate with and learn from. Ryan also supported and promoted me through his shop “Mondo Deluxe” and helped guide my skateboarding.

Hagan has been my skateboarding coach since I started attending Monster. He has trained me and provided me with the opportunity to compete in the USA.

Renton is a super experienced skater who still skates amazingly well and works hard to provide amazing opportunities for all skateboarders including me. Finally, my Dad “Mark Woolley” has had my back from day one, supported me and never doubted me.

Who’s your favourite professional athlete and why? My favourite professional would have to be Jimmy Wilkins because of his effortless style and the way he pulls out massive moves.

What is your greatest achievement in your sport so far? My greatest achievement in my sport so far is being crowned Australian Junior Bowlriding Champion.

If you weren’t playing this sport what would you be doing and why? If I wasn’t skating I would be surfing because I’ve grown up along the coast my whole life and have surfed from a young age.

What is your favourite subject at school?  My favourite subject at school is PE but I'm excited to extend my subjects into Year 9 with Woodwork and Photo and Digital Media.

What are your plans after school? Right now I don’t have any set plans, other than world domination ;). As long as I am pushing my skating, having fun and hanging with cool people I feel things will go well.  

If you could live anywhere in the world it would be? If I could live anywhere in the world it would be in California because it is the perfect place for me to pursue my skating. 

What do you do in your free time?  In my free time I film and edit videos, surf,  mountain bike and snowboard.
