A BETTER IDEA
Snowy Hydro 2.0 is not needed - it is a waste of taxpayer dollars. Snowy 2.0 is a collective agreement between the Morrison government and business, to suck over seven billion dollars from Treasury to enhance the incomes of bard room directors and investors. The truth: Snowy Hydro 1.0 doesn’t need reinvigorating, it has increased it generating capacity to mammoth proportions from 4100MW to more than 5500MW.

The increased capacity has been achieved by a steady acquisition of gas-fired power stations at Laverton and Traralgon Vic and Colongra NSW. There are also smaller operations at Port Stanvac and Angaston SA. A better idea would be to invest the funds in subsidised solar panels and battery storage.

SHOE ON OTHER FOOT
The media commentators and politicians who have come out in support of Pell and who have questioned our justice system are so often people the first to call for harsh justice and no sympathy for anyone who is not like them.
They hate unions for daring to try and protect ordinary workers. They despise environmentalists for trying to protect our country. They loath the "Do Gooders" who try and protect the poor sick disabled or helpless. They have no time to help desperate refugees or our own unemployed.
Yet when one of their own is found guilty of heinous crimes against children they scream at how unfair and unjust the system is.
Doug Steley, Heyfield
TIME FOR CHANGE
It's a shame about Cardinal George Pell, a person in such high position and a man of trust. Maybe this is now the time to overhaul the Catholic church. Allow priest's to marry and perhaps they could earn their own living and just preach on Sundays.
No more house keepers, they can tend to their own gardens and cook their own meals. That should keep them busy and occupied.

TOTALLY POINTLESS
The most outrageous part of the new festival license conditions is that they are totally pointless. They won't keep people safe. It won't stop people taking drugs. It won't stop deaths.
The evidence shows that pill testing works in saving lives. It worked at Groove in the Moo in the ACT, and has worked in European festivals for years.

IT'S NO WONDER
Retiring Federal MPs receive their pensions, based on the salaries and allowances they have been receiving prior to retirement.
With an election looming, which the government will almost certainly lose, government ministers can either retire now, in which case their pensions will be linked to the high levels of income tthey have been receiving, by virtue of their high office, or risk going into opposition after the election and retiring at a later date, when their pensions will be linked to their then much lower levels of income.
No wonder so many of them have decided to spend more time with their families.
