Bianca Tiann Burge-Sampson, aged 24, pleaded guilty to recklessly wounding her partner however she claims she only meant to scare, not hurt, him.
An agreed set of facts were tendered to Wollongong Local Court last week as a date was set for her sentencing.
The pair had been fighting after the boyfriend had been staying at home due to a significant reduction in work hours while Burge-Sampson was working as a receptionist at the Novotel Wollongong by day and a traffic controller by night.
Following an argument on August 6 this year, Burge-Sampson left their Primbee home about 6pm to cool off before she returned at 9.30pm expecting that her boyfriend had left for work. However his shift had been cancelled.
The couple began fighting about the boyfriend's lack of work and as it escalated, Burge-Sampson picked up a serrated kitchen knife and went to stab it into the lounge near where her partner was sitting.
However, the man thought she was throwing an object at him and moved to avoid being hit.
Burge-Sampson stabbed the man in the left calf. She claims she did not intend to stab him.
The pair called the man's parents who came to administer first aid and to clean up the blood.
It wasn't until hours later when the man realised the seriousness of the injury and an ambulance was called.
Paramedics arrived to treat the man and he was taken to Wollongong Hospital.
Police also came to the house and established a crime scene, seizing the blood-soaked knife and towels.
Burge-Sampson had gone to sleep and was woken by officers before stating she had stabbed her partner.
"We've been arguing the past few days," she told police.
"Saying nasty things to me" and "I was just trying to scare him, he moved his leg and it got his leg.
"I just grabbed the knife. I meant to stab the lounge, he moved his leg it just got his leg accidentally."
Burge-Sampson was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where she was charged.
The boyfriend refused to speak with police at the hospital.
In court on Thursday, a sentencing assessment report was required before the case was adjourned to December 10.
