The sounds of sweet jazz have been missing from the Illawarra for months, but Wollongong Conservatorium teacher and legend, Eric Dunan is ecstatic about the return of funky beats this November.

The regular Jazz Series, presented by the Con and Wollongong Town Hall, was abruptly cut short, with seven shows cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Program Director Mr Dunan said restrictions on music even made it hard for lessons at the Con, especially for group ensembles.
But thankfully as tensions around the country begin to ease and people can finally enjoy themselves again, the Jazz Series has been resurrected with three special concerts.
Freyja Garbett, Lucy Clifford and Jodie Michael form the trio Pa-Paw, and are all ex-students of Mr Dunan.
He said the women were childhood friends from Wollongong's northern suburbs and this would be the first time in around 10 years they were all in their home city at the same time - a benefit of the pandemic.
"They've made themselves known and contributed to the industry in a really positive way," Mr Dunan said.
"It's the first time in 10 years that all three of these musicians have been in Wollongong at the same time.
"From my perspective as their mentor and teacher I'm really proud of them as young women in this industry ... that's a real personal buzz for me."
He said the trio blend jazz improvisation, hip-hop, neo-soul, afrobeat, reggae and funk into their own cohesive style.
Next in the series is renowned jazz pianist Mike Nock and friends, with a special improvised performance involving the Wollongong Town Hall organ on December 4.
The Con's senior jazz students will get to shine for their end-of-year concert on December 10.
