Even the old "go outside and play" isn't going to cut it. What next?
An outdoor excursion to an indoor activity, quite possibly. Here's a few options to put on your radar.
LITTLE KIDS
Sharky's Play Centre
Bellambi's famous Northern Bowl has expanded so while the bigger kids can bowl a strike, little ones can enjoy the soft play area next door to the lanes.
The new play centre opened in October 2021 after the owners of the bowling alley took over a former truck mechanics next door, ripped it apart and transformed it into a children's wonderland with slides, a soft foam obstacle course and seating for mums, dads and carers.
Meantime, avid bowlers can play for $7 every Tuesday, and $17 for two games Monday to Friday (includes shoe hire).
Little Stompers
The Wollongong indoor play centre welcomes kids up to the age of 10, with a dedicated area suited to infants up to two-year-olds.
On Easter Monday, April 18, families can enjoy a special high tea with craft activities, a visit from the Easter bunny, instant tea and coffee, plus a gift for each paid child.
Flip Out
Flip Out North Wollongong is an indoor trampoline playground perfect for children aged six to 16.
Flip Out, aims to give you healthy & awesome fun through massive trampolines, ball games, events, and more surprises for everyone's enjoyment including great coffee seven days a week.
BIGGER KIDS
Timezone Fun Parlour
The centre at Albion Park Rail was refurbished in 2021 and now has laser tag, bumper cars that spin and illuminated arcade games.
The revamped venue now boasts 90 arcade games of varying type, fluorescent bumper cars that spin around, plenty of food and drinks with booth-style seating, plus a licensed bar for those over 18.
Timezone and Zone Bowling is open seven days a week, and accepts the NSW Discover vouchers.
Gravity Gym
The Gravity Ninja gym opened in January 2021 equipped with warped walls, climbing apparatuses, trampolines and more for the ultimate obstacle course experience.
Management says around 90 per cent of clientele are children and teenagers but they do have adult classes too.
Gravity is suited for primary and secondary school-aged children, but pre-school programs also run for ages three to five. They also accept NSW Parents and Discover vouchers.
Grip Socks are required, (patrons can bring your own or they have them to purchase). During holiday programs participants also need to bring their own lunch, snacks and a water bottle.
During the school holidays parents can enrol kids in these day sessions (for one day or multiple):
- Gym fun camp - gymnastics, Easter craft - 8am-5.30pm
- Ninja camp - based around the ninja course - 9am-3pm
- Pre-school program (kids need to be toilet-trained) - 9am-12pm.
Shellharbour Club
If you feel like having a coffee and something to eat while your kids play on the giant slide or have a crack at scoring a slam dunk, head to Precinct inside the Shellharbour Club.
It's probably best suited to ages five to 12.
Food vendors are open for lunch and dinner Saturday and Sunday, and just dinner Wednesday to Friday.
3Sixty Indoor Skate Park
Found at the industrial complete on Drummond Street in Wollongong, you'll find a 4 ft mini halfpipe with spine, 2 street sections, 8ft roll into quarter, resi and 6m air bag.
Owners say there is something for everyone at any age and no matter what skill level.
