Police are hunting the driver of a light-coloured Subaru and calling on the public to help find them by supplying dashcam footage.
About 6.45pm Saturday, emergency services responded to reports a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle at Gwynneville.
Witnesses told police an 85-year-old woman was crossing Gipps Road about 10 metres east of Berkeley Road, when she was hit.
Police said the unknown vehicle failed to stop and travelled east on Gipps Road towards Keiraville.
Police believe the vehicle may have been a Subaru Outback or similar.
Members of the public assisted the woman until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene.
The victim was taken to Wollongong Hospital in a serious yet stable condition.
As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
